Mental health/Anxiety/Depression/pyrrole testing

This page covers the following tests: (These test are available through True Vitality via consultation)

  • Neurotransmitters
  • Histamine
  • Pyrrole
  • MTHFR
  • Amino Acids

Extensive Neurotransmitters Profile – Urine

The Extensive Neurotransmitter Profile is a urine test, assessing levels of 6 neurotransmitters: serotonin, GABA, dopamine, noradrenaline, adrenaline and glutamate. These neurotransmitters are the most researched in relation to their effects on mood disorders, hormones, sleep, glucose/insulin balance, pain perception, appetite and cognitive function. Low or high levels of neurotransmitters are observed in various mental health disorders, such as depression, attention-deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD), Parkinson’s disease and panic attacks.

Serotonin

Serotonin (5-hydroxytryptamine) is an inhibitory neurotransmitter synthesised in the central nervous system (CNS) and the gastrointestinal tract. Dopamine Dopamine is an excitatory and inhibitory neurotransmitter synthesized in many areas of the brain. Noradrenaline and Adrenaline Noradrenaline (norepinephrine) and adrenaline (epinephrine) are excitatory neurotransmitters as well as hormones.

GABA

GABA (gamma-aminobutyric acid) is an amino acid that functions as an inhibitory neurotransmitter in the brain.

Glutamate

Glutamate is a major mediator of excitatory signals in the brain and is involved in most aspects of normal brain function including cognition, memory and learning.

Histamine – Blood

Histamine is most well-known for its involvement in allergic reactions, however it also acts as a neurotransmitter like serotonin and dopamine. Histamine is involved in the wake-sleep cycle and is required for arousal, alertness, learning and memory. It also regulates appetite, other neurotransmitters and the perception of pain. Histamine imbalances, both low and high are known to be involved in mental health issues.

Common Conditions:

  • Depression
  • Overweight
  • High pain threshold
  • Low libido & difficult orgasm

Pyrrole aka Mauve Factor or Kryptopyrroles

(for testing and more info click here) The Mauve Factor test (formerly known as Kryptopyrroles) is a urinary test which analyses the level of HPL, a neurotoxic substance found in high levels in schizophrenia, autism, ADHD, alcoholism, violent offenders and other mental health disorders such as depression and anxiety, as well as found in those that have hormone issues, including thyroid, as well as in those with gut issues/digestion, and immune system problems.

Common Conditions:

  • Abdominal pain
  • Impotence in males
  • Acne
  • Irregular periods
  • Allergies
  • Migraines
  • Anxiety
  • Morning nausea
  • Attention Deficit/Hyperactivity
  • Depression

 MTHFR Gene Mutation

MTHFR is a regulatory enzyme in folate dependent homocysteine re-methylation.  A mutation in the MTHFR gene may affect fertility in both sexes, mood disorders and mental health, autism spectrum disorders, risk of venous thrombosis and is associated with elevated plasma homocysteine.

Common Conditions:

  • Anxiety
  • Insomnia
  • Fatigue
  • Depression
  • Autism

Amino Acids – Urine

Amino acids play central roles both as building blocks of proteins and as intermediates in metabolism.  They are catalysts to most, if not all, cellular processes. Scientific research has demonstrated that conditions as varied as chemical sensitivities, cardiovascular disease, macular degeneration, bone disorders, mental health or hormonal imbalances and insomnia are associated with amino acid imbalances.

Common Conditions:

• Allergies
• Anxiety
• Cardiovascular disease
• Depression
• Diabetes
• Fatigue
• Hypertension
• Inflammatory conditions
• Insomnia
• Mental health
• Infections
